Flights connecting Shanghai and Algiers, the capital of Algeria, will be launched in the upcoming winter-spring season, one of several moves aimed at further improving the global connectivity of Shanghai's two airports, according to the Shanghai Airport (Group) Co Ltd.

In addition to adding the new Shanghai-Algiers flight, Shanghai Pudong International Airport aims to strengthen its role as a major platform of the Shanghai international aviation hub by increasing the frequency of flights to destinations including Frankfurt in Germany, Auckland in New Zealand, Sydney in Australia, Singapore, Bangkok in Thailand, Jeju in South Korea, and Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam.

Among them, the world's longest one-way flight linking Shanghai with Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, with a stop in Auckland, will add two weekly flights, bringing the route to four a week starting Dec 5.

The Shanghai Pudong International Airport and the Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport are expected to handle 2,511 flights in total on a daily basis, up 3.8 percent year-on-year during the winter-spring season, which will run from Oct 25 through Mar 27, 2027, the Shanghai Airport (Group) announced on Oct 24.
