Open standards and meaningful participation, particularly from Africa and the Global South, are important to building a shared future in cyberspace, Nii Narku Quaynor said at the 2026 World Internet Conference Wuzhen Summit.
Quaynor, chairman of Ghana Dot Com and an Internet Hall of Fame inductee, highlighted three dimensions of openness: open documents, open standards and meaningful participation.
Openness, he said, enables people to draw on global knowledge and contribute their own solutions.
Quaynor emphasized that collaboration drives innovation and that inclusion is essential to sustainable progress. A truly open cyberspace, he said, gives everyone the opportunity to access, understand and shape technology, and share in its benefits.
