Foreign dignitaries and digital leaders shared insights on open-source development, algorithm transparency and inclusive digital governance during the opening ceremony of the World Internet Conference Wuzhen Summit.
Yolanda Díaz Pérez, second deputy prime minister of Spain and minister for labour and social economy, said Spain has rolled out regulations to disclose delivery platform algorithms to protect the rights of platform workers.
She noted China and Spain share common ground that algorithms should serve people, reduce inequality, and not turn into opaque power controlled solely by corporate executives.
Nii Quaynor, chairman of Ghana's Network Computer Systems and an inductee to the Internet Hall of Fame, said true openness embraces open documentation, open standards and meaningful engagement of all stakeholders.
He added an open cyberspace should allow communities worldwide to access, understand, and shape digital technologies and reap their benefits.
John Hoffman, chairman of the GSMA, said the Wuzhen Summit serves as a critical global venue to foster an open and shared internet for all.
He said mobile connectivity and emerging artificial intelligence should work hand in hand to bridge digital divides and ensure no community is left behind amid digital transformation.
