About the employer
Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences
The Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics (CIOMP) was founded in 1952 focusing on luminescence, applied optics, optical engineering, and precision mechanics and instrumentation. There are 2,357 faculty and staff members, 303 professionals working at CIOMP, including 3 CAS academicians and 707 associate professors (as of the end of July 2019). CIOMP has formulated an integrated “Research, Industry, and Education” approach and is increasing its abilities to realize the full potential of a wide range of endeavors. For instance, by breaking through key technological barriers, CIOMP successfully developed payloads for the Shenzhou V and Shenzhou VI rockets — part of the manned space program and the Tiangong-1 space station. In addition, CIOMP now hosts an International Optoelectronic Innovation Cluster, 6 State Key Laboratories and research centers, and 2 CAS Key Laboratories. There are more than 20 high-tech companies in the CAS Changchun Optoelectronics Industrial Park with investment support from CIOMP and total assets of 403 million USD. By serving almost 100 companies, the national optoelectronic industry incubator provides an important public service platform for technology transfers in Jilin Province.
The GPL Photonics Laboratory
The GPL Photonics Laboratory is a key laboratory for international science and technology cooperation in Jilin Province, China. It is also supported by the State Key Laboratory of Applied Optics and Precision Instrument and Equipment Innovation Research Institute, mainly engaged in research in the fields of nanophotonics, laser-matter interactions, and advanced materials processing. Since its establishment, the laboratory has won multiple projects supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, the National Nature Science Foundation of China, Jilin Provincial Government of China, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, CIOMP and other sources totaling 70 million yuan. The laboratory is housed in a 3-story/3,000-square meter (~30,000 square feet) state-of-the-art research building, including nearly 300 square meters of ultra-clean laboratories with constant temperature and humidity. At present, the laboratory has 19 employees (including 7 awardees selected from national, provincial and local institute talent programs, and 5 foreign employees) and 45 students (including 4 foreign students). It has established long-term cooperative relations with top institutions such as Stanford University, University of Rochester, University of California, National University of Singapore, and Peking University.
About the post
The GPL lab is looking for a highly motivated research scientist with consolidated expertise in opto-fluidic science or related disciplines.
The expert will:
1. Develop a new set of local, active, time-resolved, non-contact optical methods that simultaneously use optical momentum to induce liquid interface deformations to detect such deformations with nanoscale precision optical interferometry;
2. Address key fundamental problems of optofluidic, i.e. light momentum inside the dielectric medium with in-situ detection technology of various physical properties of pure and complex nanofluid and bio-fluid;
3. Work on a number of projects under the supervision of Professor Wei Li, providing an important research foundation for the smooth development of many international and provincial scientific research projects.
Candidate requirements
More specifically, the expert will:
1. have a PhD in optics, physics, fluid dynamics or related disciplines.
2. have at least 3 years of proven experience and working ability in the field of interferometric or other non-contact optical technology, optical interferometry and fluid mechanics.
3. He/she should be able to use laser installation and imaging analysis tools.
4. He/she has published articles in relevant research areas.
Conditions
The offer is to cover a position at the assistant professor level with a salary of 300,000 RMB/year for 3 years.
Starting Date: The position will start ideally as soon as the candidate is hired.
All applications must be addressed to Ms. Wenting Sun(wentingsun@ciomp.ac.cn), the assistant of Professor Li; and include a full CV with contact details, a cover letter and contacts of 2-3 references.
